ASAP Rocky won’t be starting his own clothing line anytime soon but he does play a big hand in several brands including Black Scale, Raf Simons and more. In this recent interview with MTV he talks about the matter.
ASAP Rocky always speaks his mind on fashion and states what he feels. This is no different, as he calls out rappers fashion lines saying that they are, “corny.” Check out what he had to say below:
“I might collab with designers, but that sh-t corn. When rappers be doing that clothing line sh-t, that sh-t be corny man. That’s a slow reality show. Ya know how reality shows wash ni–as up. I feel that clothing line sh-t is just a slower reality show. That sh-t corny man.
I’m not no fashion designer. Just ‘cause I got good taste don’t mean that I know how to create it. I feel that’s disrespectful. It’s just like record labels and sh-t. Just cause motherf-ckers know Hip-Hop doesn’t mean you know how to create it motherf-cker. Just cause you know it, don’t mean you know how to create it.
I know brands well, I’m not a fashion designer. It’s more to fashion than just fabrics and stencils. You gotta learn how to draw, you gotta know how colorways work and materials, it’s hard man.
Hood clothing lines…I refuse man. I refuse. I’m good on that.”
When discussing his personal style, ASAP Rocky says:
“With clothes, I like mixing what different designers do until it becomes a personal expression of how I’m feeling that day. This vest is by Skingraft. It only comes out for a GQ shoot or a hot date with an actress. That’s the bourgeois look. Booj-waaah.”
On his love for the ladies:
“When I was a kid, I was a little horndog. First it was candy and girls. Then it was girls and bikes and scooters. Then it was girls, rap, and clothes. Now it’s girls, directing videos, my house, and fashion. And girls, girls, girls.”
On “doing lunch” with fashion designers:
“[Fashion designer] Jeremy Scott is my boy. We’ll do a shoot and then do lunch. Every time I see him, he has gifts for me. He knows I like weed, so he’ll bring edibles.”
